Family continuity is built in ordinary weeks: swim meets, soccer games, bikes, runs, school, travel, camping, radio, and the recurring miracle of locating every required piece of gear.
Actual children, actual schedules and somebody already running late are excellent systems tests.
Randall and Krista
Randall is a soccer dad and swim dad, as well as a runner, cyclist, open-water swimmer, backcountry skier, snow camper, tent camper, and kayaker. The boys’ sports and the family’s outdoor life are not sidebars to preparedness. They are where the system is used every week.
Randall is orange. Krista is willing to accept purple when a color assignment is useful, which she tolerates despite not particularly wanting a color assignment.
Krista is K6KEG and carries substantial Board Secretary and back-office administrative work for Shalom Free Clinic, Chico AquaJets, Chico Junior High Drama Boosters, and Rosas de María. She also serves on the board of Virtues Adventure Kids Club. Randall is K6RCS, President of Shalom, Treasurer of Rosas de María, and the primary author of Team Stone’s radio and travel systems.
The boys
Both boys are bilingual and fluent for their grade levels in English and Spanish. They swim competitively with Chico AquaJets, bike for transportation, participate in Virtues Adventure Kids Club and Ballet Folklórico, use GMRS, and are beginning snow skiers.
Rhys, now 13 and in eighth grade, has run cross country since sixth grade in fall 2024 and also participates in Chico Striders, soccer, baseball, drama and Scouts. He is working toward Tenderfoot, has completed the Swimming Merit Badge and First Aid instruction, and is interested in canoeing, sailing, wilderness survival, emergency preparedness, search and rescue, archery, shooting sports and radio. Karden swims with AquaJets, plays Eastside Little League baseball, roller skates and skateboards. Rhys uses blue as his family identifier. Karden uses green.
Krista
Social work, nonprofit governance, youth organizations, K6KEG and GEARS.
Rhys
Cross country, Striders, AquaJets, Scouts and merit badges, sailing, drama, Ballet Folklórico, sport, skiing and GMRS.
Karden
AquaJets, Eastside Little League, Ballet Folklórico, Virtues, roller skating, skateboarding, skiing, music and GMRS.
Privacy
Public pages can show the family and the systems without publishing school schedules, live travel, home patterns, private radio details, or information that creates a future burden for the boys.
Water
Competitive swimming, family swimming, open water, whitewater kayaking, and small-boat sailing.
Land
Bikes, Class IV lanes, running, soccer, baseball, skating, EUCs, hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing.
Signal
GMRS family roles, amateur-radio awareness, APRS, clear speech, listening, rendezvous, and fallback plans.
Family systems in practice
Preparedness is mostly ordinary movement together.
Travel, hiking, coast days, baseball trips, extended family, and getting everyone through the door with the necessary equipment are where Team Stone habits become real.
