Athletics and outdoor travel have ranged from competitive triathlon and distance running to swimming, skiing, snowshoeing, cycling, whitewater kayaking and backcountry travel.

Triathlon history

Team USA in 1992 and 1993, with a team gold result in Manchester in 1993, remains part of the athletic record. Running, swimming and cycling continued long after the competitive chapter.

Everyday transportation

For roughly nine years, personal electric vehicles and electric unicycles became practical daily transportation rather than novelty equipment. That experience also shaped views of street design, safety, geography and how children learn to move through a city.
