Movement has always been part of the method.
Triathlon, running, swimming, skiing, snow travel, cycling, whitewater and everyday transportation have all demanded the same basics: preparation, judgment, movement and enough humility to let conditions change the plan.
Family changes the risk model.
The goal is to get there, teach judgment, keep the group together and leave enough margin that a surprise stays manageable.
Winter makes the lesson obvious.
Cold, snow, daylight, route-finding, clothing and communications become one system. Team Stone preparedness grew out of ordinary trips like these.

Not every expedition needs to be dramatic.
Much of the outdoor life is simply choosing to go outside together. The same family system includes serious backcountry travel and a picnic where nobody needs a contingency flowchart.
Triathlon history
Nationally ranked competition, Team USA in 1992 and 1993, a 1992 USTS national title, 1993 All-American recognition, and team gold at the Triathlon World Championships in Manchester in August 1993. The next chapter was abrupt independence, school and full-time work.

Across Chico without becoming traffic.
We rode bicycles from one end of Chico to the other, almost entirely in Class IV separated bikeways. Chico still carries the roadway moonscapes built to feed the auto colossus—an immense system demanding space for driving and parking, widening roads and physically fracturing communities in the process.
But decades of bicycle investment produced something real. Four people crossed the city without adding another car to traffic, without becoming traffic and without surrendering the whole public realm to people who perhaps should not be operating 4,000-pound machinery.

First turns are earned the night before.
Krista overlooking Pilot Pinnacle from about 8,400 feet near our campsite. We hiked in through the snow, camped in the storm, and woke to this incredible view—and untouched snow. That is the benefit of first turns.

A separate archive is reconstructing the early swimming, running, cross-country and triathlon years from period programs, race sheets, governing-body records, photographs, retained awards and certificates, and clearly labeled firsthand memory. Physical artifacts awaiting scans are separated from independently recovered records.
